History of Polski Gradec

Polski Gradec (Bulgarian: Полски Градец) is a district in Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Obshtina Radnevo and the region of Oblast Stara Zagora, in the central part of the country, 240 km east of Sofia, the capital.

Polski Gradec is situated in Bulgaria. The surroundings of Polski Gradec are primarily covered in fields. The population density is relatively low, with about 31 people per square kilometer. The climate is boreal, with an average temperature of 13°C. The hottest month is August, with temperatures reaching up to 34°C, while the coldest is January, with temperatures dropping to −2°C. The area receives an average annual rainfall of 957 millimeters, with May being the wettest month (119 millimeters) and August the driest (26 millimeters).

Geography

The village has a small center consisting of 1 shop.

On one side, the village is surrounded by a pine forest, and on the other, heather.

History

Until 1906, the village was called Diljileri.

In 1830, settlers from the village, along with residents of Nalbantlare in the Sliven region, founded the village of Delzhiler in Bessarabia.

In 1906, the village was renamed Gradec, and since 1960 it has been known as Polski Gradec. In 1985, the village had 1,335 inhabitants.

Cultural and natural attractions

The late antique and medieval fortress Gradishte is located 0.73 km south in a straight line from the center of the village of Polski Gradets. It is built on a low rise. It has the shape of an irregular quadrilateral. It has approximate dimensions of 70x40 m. The fortress wall, 1.4 m wide, was built of quarry stone, joined with mortar mixed with broken brick. To the east of the fortress are the foundations of a tower.
